Ozark High School’s Special Olympics Flag Football team recently traveled to Nixa for a thrilling flag football game, bringing together students, staff, and the community to celebrate athleticism, inclusion, and sportsmanship. The game was filled with excitement, as Special Olympics athletes showcased their skills and teamwork on the field.
“The athletes were the heart of the event,” Coach Reed Kirby said. “While many people contributed to making the game a fun and fulfilling experience, it was the athletes who made it truly meaningful. The moment was entirely about their incredible efforts and skills, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.”
The event highlighted the school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, where all students have the opportunity to participate in sports. The players’ enthusiasm and determination were contagious, creating a memorable day for everyone involved. Beyond the competition, the game reinforced the spirit of unity and the importance of providing platforms for students of all abilities to shine.
The athletes even got some guidance and assistance from Ozark High School Varsity Football players who assisted not only during the flag football practices but also during the game, helping athletes do their best and celebrating every touchdown!
“Our players were so grateful to be a part of the experience,” Head Football Coach Jeremy Cordell said. “From assisting during class time to the competition, it was a fantastic experience for everyone involved. We are so proud of our Special Olympics athletes!”
The event was a win not just on the scoreboard but in promoting community togetherness and inclusivity at OHS, and also helped raise money for the annual Backyard Brawl benefiting each schools special education programs.
