On Wednesday, Feb. 7, five Ozark High School athletes announced that they have committed to play their sport at the collegiate level. Congrats to all five athletes and we can’t wait to see what they do in the future!
Alex Nimmo – College of the Ozarks – Baseball
"Last year, Alex pitched 36 innings for us. He was kind of our utility infielder. He played some third base, second base, shortstop, and pitched. He has been shown to be the type of player who says, 'I'll do whatever the team needs'. That being said, I think the most impressive thing about Alex is his leadership and commitment to the team and the classroom. It's been an honor to coach him." - Justin Sundlie (Head Baseball Coach)
George Reynolds – College of the Ozarks – Baseball
"We have high expectations for George this year. He's proven to be able to handle the bat, which means he can hit in the middle of our lineup and drive in runs. He had a great summer and continues to work. I mean, the physical transformation shows how hard he's worked in the weight room, while the mental transformation shows how much he's grown mentally while learning to handle the game at a higher level. He's one of our leaders. We rely on him heavily. He's very vocal. He's very good in the classroom. Just does everything right; it's been a privilege to coach him." - Justin Sundlie (Head Baseball Coach)
Jace Whatley – Missouri Southern State University – Football
"Over the past three years, Jace has been a varsity starter for Ozark football, playing both the outside linebacker and tight end positions. Jace possesses a long, athletic frame, competitive spirit, and intelligence on the field, making him a dangerous offensive threat. Most importantly, Jace carries a 4.4 GPA and always challenges himself in the classroom. Jace is intentional about academics and his future. He is committed to working in the medical field and spending his life serving others. We all wish you the best in your next chapter of Missouri Southern." - Jeremy Cordell (Head Football Coach)
Courtney Merrell – Mission University – Softball
"Courtney moved into the area the summer before her sophomore year, and what a great addition that was. Courtney stepped in immediately and became an impactful player. This season, Courtney was one of our most vocal leaders. It was a pleasure to watch her in this role, and I know her teammates appreciate it too. In her three years, she played an intricate part in an undefeated COC championship and state quarterfinal appearance during her junior year. Courtney has worked tremendously hard to get where she is today. Mission University is not only getting a great player, but they are also adding a great person to their family. We are very proud of you, Courtney. Congratulations." - Jimmy Nimmo (Softball Head Coach)
Madilynn Beaman – Graceland University – Dance
"Madi joined our team two years ago, full of energy and enthusiasm to perform and grow as a dancer. Since then, she has worked hard to improve her technique and skills. I'm so proud of how far she's come and how much she's grown as a dancer. However, I'm most proud of who she has become as a person. Madi is always there to encourage her teammates to help out when needed and has been a great mentor to those coming into our program. Not to mention, she always brings the energy and the best snacks on all of our trips. I have no doubt she'll continue to grow as a dancer academically and as a person. Madi, I'm so proud of you and all of your accomplishments. I look forward to what Graceland holds for you. Thank you for being who you are." - Shawnna Wilson (Poms Dance Team Head Coach)
