Ozark coach Justin Sundlie put the idea of a bunt in Anthony Cordell’s head Tuesday and hinted strongly he’d like to see it, even with two outs on the Tigers and the potential go-ahead run on third base.

Ultimately, Sundlie left it up to Cordell to make the call to bunt.

“He pulled me over and said, ‘Dude, you're the best bunter we’ve got and the third baseman has been playing back all game. He's got a decent arm, but you're fast enough to beat it out,’” Cordell said. “Before I stepped in the box, I took a little peek and saw (the third baseman) was playing back, so I was like, ‘Might as well do it in a big situation and do something special for our team.’"

Cordell executed, with a big assist to his 3.7-second speed to first base. On a bang-bang play at first, he legged out a single that plated Brody Julian with the winning run in Ozark’s 3-2 triumph over Jefferson City Helias.

The Tigers scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, after Helias scored both of its runs in the top of the sixth.
