We’re still, of course, very, very early, into Ozark’s season. But in less than a week, Tigers junior outfielder Rylan Sutton is well ahead of a pace that would put him among MSHSAA’s all-time single-season leaders for extra-base hits.
Sutton already has seven extra-base hits in Ozark’s 5-0 start. He has collected two doubles, two triples and three home runs. His slugging percentage is well above 1.000.
The state record for extra-base hits, by the way, is 32. If Sutton can get to 27 extras, he’d be in the top 10, and 24 extras would get him in the top 20.
He showed prior proficiency for extra base hits. During his injury-riddled sophomore season a year ago that was shortened to 57 at-bats, he had four doubles, three triples and two home runs.
Yet, he doesn’t consider himself a home run hitter and launch angle isn’t part of his mechanics at-bat.
