The Ozark High School boys track team is preparing for an ambitious and competitive 2026 season. Last year, the Tigers finished second in both the Central Ozark Conference and District track meets, and this season the team is focused on building on that foundation. The primary goal for the year is to improve team placements while qualifying as many athletes as possible for the state track meet series. Each athlete is also striving to achieve personal bests in their events, making individual growth just as important as team success.
Leadership will play a central role in guiding the team. Kannon Williams, the program’s most decorated athlete, brings both experience and a strong work ethic, setting a standard for his teammates. Distance runner Chase Kitchin is expected to challenge the distance group to perform at a high level throughout the season. While these athletes will serve as key leaders, the team’s strength comes from its depth. Many young men contribute to the culture and success of the program, demonstrating that leadership is not just about winning, it is about effort, attitude, and commitment to doing things the right way.
The Tigers are expected to be competitive across a wide range of events. Sprinters, distance runners, hurdlers, jumpers, and throwers will all have opportunities to make an impact. This diversity not only strengthens the team in competition but also provides multiple pathways for athletes to challenge themselves and grow. Emphasis on technique, conditioning, and consistent effort in practice will be key to translating talent into performance on the track.
Beyond competition, the program emphasizes personal growth and maturity. Athletes will be challenged physically and mentally, learning to overcome obstacles, push through setbacks, and take pride in their achievements. At the same time, the coaching staff aims to create a supportive and enjoyable environment, where track can be both demanding and fun. The combination of hard work, perseverance, and team camaraderie is expected to foster meaningful growth for each athlete.
"I look forward to seeing our athletes setting new PRs," Head Coach Justin Emmerton said," but also conquering obstacles that come up, acheiving in ways they didn't believe they could, maturing athletically, and growing personally as young adults."
The 2026 season promises to be one of both high-level performance and personal development. With experienced leaders, motivated athletes, and a culture built on dedication and teamwork, the Ozark boys track team is positioned to make significant strides. From achieving personal records to challenging for conference and district titles, the Tigers are set for a season full of accomplishments, growth, and memorable moments on and off the track.
