Playing to their strengths, center Bria Wright and her Ozark teammates handed Glendale a loss Thursday the likes the Lady Falcons hadn’t absorbed in more than four years.
The Lady Tigers held Glendale scoreless for the first 11-plus minutes en route to a 27-18 COC East triumph. It wasn’t until the 4:03 mark of the second quarter that the Lady Falcons finally put up points.
The 18 points are the least amount of points for Glendale since the Lady Falcons scored 17 in a Pink & White Tournament game in 2021.
Wherever Glendale tried to go with the ball Thursday, a speedy Ozark defender was sure to already be there and feet set. The Lady Tigers’ exceptional lateral quickness allowed them to repeatedly stay in between the Lady Falcons and the basket.
“We’re not the biggest team, but we are all fast,” Wright said. “Our speed and grit on defense are our biggest strengths. We’re good at help-(defense) and playing good team defense.”
Ozark (9-11 overall and 2-1 in the COC East) matched up very well against Glendale, which tried to open up space by positioning all five players along the perimeter.
