Kian Sorlie covered half the field and James Nemeti took care of the rest during their thrilling counterattack goal that capped Ozark’s 2-0 triumph against Joplin on Tuesday.
Standing in the goalie box, Sorlie stepped in front of a Joplin shot on goal and proceeded to launch a kick of 50 yards. Nemeti picked up the ball on the run and deftly booted it across his body and over the Eagles goalkeeper.
Assists almost always don’t get much attention, but there was no overlooking Sorlie’s pass.
“It was probably a perfect ball,” Nemeti said. “I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It was right in line with me and the goal. I just had to worry about putting (the ball) in the back of the net. Kian had told me after they kick, they had been going up way further than the half (line). I listened to him and went to the half. Everybody else was 10 yards behind me after the ball was already played. They weren’t going to catch me.”
