Russell becomes first Ozark quarterback to sign to play college ball in 17 years

Peyton Russell figures if not for the arrival of coach Jeremy Cordell at Ozark he would have fallen in line with the long list of previous Tigers quarterbacks to not play beyond high school.

When Russell signed with Evangel last week, he became the first Ozark QB to sign to play college ball since 2009 grad Jordan Nuckolls signed with Harvard.

Ozark QBs to make starts in between Nuckolls and Russell included Drew Crain, Christian Jordan, Seth Wheeler, David Salazar, Micah Tinsman, Cameron Cook, Jack Hulse, Danny Carr, Chance Strickler, Cannon Cox, Jace Easley, Gage Depee and Brock Dodd.

“No, I don’t think I would be,” Russell said when asked if he thinks he would be bound for Evangel without Cordell coming to Ozark three years ago. “He was a big part of my success. I’m extremely thankful for coach Cordell. He was a big part of my development. He helped me so much.”

Russell was relieved when Cordell changed about everything in Ozark’s playbook and installed a gun rocket offense.
