Izzy Brewer took full advantage of her extended playing time Thursday, as the freshman forward collected a pair of goals in Ozark’s 3-1 triumph over Carthage.
With Ozark playing five matches in eight days, coach Zack Owens gave his ‘swing’ players extended minutes. In fact, Brewer and other backups and jayvee players logged more playing time than the starters.
Brewer thought the swing players gave a good amount of themselves.
“We're used to practicing and playing with each other and have really good energy with each other,” she said. “It was good to be able to contribute to the team.”
Brewer has three goals on the season and twice has scored on a header.
“It says a lot about her that she’s willing to go up in the middle of a scrum and fight for the ball with 17- and 18-year old girls and win a head ball,” Owens said. “I’m super proud of her. She’s doing a great job taking care of the ball. She likes having the ball at her feet. She’s confident and is finding ways to get the ball in the back of the net.”
