A pair of freshmen, 106-pounder Parker Hansen and 132-pounder Andrew York, joined sophomore Colton Wilson as Ozark champions at the Kinloch Classic over the weekend. Also, the Tigers ran away with the team title, outdistancing the field by 65 points.
York (21-6) was an unseeded champion. He pulled out a 5-4 victory in the 132 final against Ethan Kelly, of Glendale.
“It means a lot to take first in this tournament,” York said. “I had to prove some people wrong and went out and did it. I’m very proud. I worked a lot for this moment.”
“Those freshmen understand they have to earn it,” Sundlie said. “It doesn't matter what they did youth wrestling. Andrew came here with that mindset, and he loves to compete.”
York's father, Brandon, is a former college wrestler at Maryland.
"Everything everything has to be worked for is pretty much all he talks about," Andrew said.
Hansen needed just :46 to pin Robert Winn, of Rolla, in the 106 final.
