How appropriate a pitcher named Paisley makes a point of pacing back and forth at the back of the center circle.
Ozark’s Paisley Turner showed off her pre-pitch ritual Tuesday while hitting all parts of the strike zone in a complete-game gem as part of the Lady Tigers’ 5-1 victory versus Joplin.
Turner shut out the Lady Eagles through the first six innings.
All the while, she got herself prepared to pitch by pacing.
“I don't really like to stay in one place. I like moving around, so going back and forth helps me,” Turner said of her rather unique routine. “I can't say what college pitcher it was, but I did see someone else do it. I thought, 'Oh, that's a great idea’ because I hate standing still. When the batter keeps calling time, I'm like, 'Let's go.’”
Also, the pacing gives her the feeling of momentum being on her side.
“I think it helps me push off (the pitching rubber) better. I'm not stuck in the ground,” Turner said.
“It's something that helps keep her calm and in the right mindset. Whatever works,” Ozark coach Brenden Schneider said.
